Britta Lee Holcombe, age 89, of Whitter died Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Skyland Care Center of Sylva, NC. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Holcombe was born July 29, 1926. She is the daughter of the late Paul Domby and the late Grace (Daves) Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Ralph Raymond Robinson, and her second husband, Fred Brooks Holcombe; a son, Michael Raymond Robinson, a granddaughter, Beverly Ann Shuler, and two brothers, Glenn Phillips of Clyde, and Clyde Phillips of Sylva.
She worked for twenty eight years at the Jackson County Board of Elections. She was a lifelong member of Canton Presbyterian Church, and attended East Sylva Baptist for many years. She loved spending time with her family, traveling and gardening.
She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Robinson and Raymond Young; a stepson, Mark Holcombe; six grandsons, Jeffrey and Amber Shuler, Christopher Shuler and Matthew Shuler, Clint Holcombe, Adam Young and Phillip Young; one granddaughter, Brittney and Matt Crumbley; three greatgrandchildren, Alissa Shuler, Dakota Nicholson and Lucas Ray Shuler; two sisters, Ann and J. B. Cook and Sandra and Hugh Blanton; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 21 at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC with Rev. Charles Dean, and Rev. Steve Jamison officiating. Burial will be in Lower Coward Cemetery, Caney Fork, Cullowhee. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 20 from 6 until 8 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.
