Billy Ray Stewart

Billy R. Stewart, 91, of Tuckasegee, NC, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was reunited with his parents Robert and Edith Stewart, brother Robert Stewart, Jr., sister-in-law Aline Stewart, nephew Robert Dean Stewart, and sister Viola Keaton.

He was born in Oklahoma. Bill was veteran of the US Army and served our grateful nation in the Korean War; he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Army Occupation Medal, Japan Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star, and the UN Service Medal. After his honorable departure from the Army, he worked with General Motors-Fisher Body Plant in Michigan for over thirty years. Billy and his wife Brona built a wonderful life together. Eventually making Tuckasegee their forever home. In Billy’s free time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing for catfish and swing dancing. Bill and his family provided zoysia sod grass, care, and labor of installation for the Middleton Cemetery.

Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Brona Middleton Stewart, son Darron Stewart and wife Terry, grandchildren Matthew Stewart and wife Alaynie, Kathryn and her husband Nathanael Messner, great-grandson Isaac Messner and two precious great-grandchildren on the way. Billy also leaves behind his brother Steven.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, September 20, 2024, in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Pastor Dennis Burrell officiating; a visitation will be held one hour prior. A graveside will follow at Middleton Cemetery in Tuckasegee, North Carolina.
