Betty H. Greene, 90, of Sylva, passed away Friday February 9, 2024
A native and a lifelong resident of Jackson County she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mabel Hensley
From childhood Betty devoted her life to serving the Lord. Throughout her life, Betty sang with Gospel groups, was a Sunday school teacher, active in TBA, member of WMU, taught Bible school (including workshops in both Jackson and Swain Counties), a bible school director, she served as a missionary to Brazil, taught Bible Club at Fairview Elementary as well as many other roles all while serving the Lord. Teaching about the Lord was important to her heart.
Betty enjoyed music, playing both guitar and piano. She was an oil painter and teacher and in her spare time she loved gardening. She was a hairdresser by trade and later in life owned Bettys Arts and Crafts. She was a Graduate of Liberty University and Southwestern Community College. She touched many lives along her way and will be dearly missed by her entire family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Rev. Bill Marshall Greene, her daughter; Barbara Ashe, son-in-law; Jimmy Ashe, grandson; Michael Adrian Ashe, her great granddaughter; Sydney Alexandria as well as 2 sisters and a brother.
She is survived by;
Her daughter; Doris Melton (Ronnie) of Sylva
Grandchildren; Lora Kinsey (Eric), Dora Walker, Leslie Travis (John), Michael Melton, April Mayes (Ron), Brandon Ashe and Erica Bullock (DJ)
13 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren, 2 Brothers, 3 Sisters and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other family.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday February 12, 2024 at Locust Field Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Moore, Roger Stewman and Avery Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the Service at the Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
