Betty Ellen Bryson Chastain 89 of Tuckasegee, beloved moma, mamaw, meemaw and friend passed away on July 18, 2024 at home surrounded by family. She was born October 31, 1934 to the late Lyman and Martha Ellen Bryson and was the wife of the late J.B. Chastain, who passed away on February 28, 2012.
Not one to talk much, she spoke with her actions and by the life she lived. Her faith in God and her unwavering love for her family is the testimony she leaves with us. A faithful member of Trout Creek Baptist Church, she served as Clerk for several years and loved singing in the choir. She knew every song by heart, no book needed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by infant brother Henry Hugh and infant sister Dorothy Ann Bryson, brothers Walter Dee Bryson and J.R Bryson (Jessie) who passed exactly one week prior to her.
Betty is survived by two sons: Doug (Rose) and Tony, both of Tuckasegee and two daughters: Sharon of Cleveland, TN and Debbie (Gary) of Tuckasegee. She is also survived by four grandsons: Josh (Crystal) Chastain, Jeremy (Beth) Brooks, Jacob Brooks and Devin Chastain (Cheyanne), Three Granddaughters: Pamela Chastain, Candice (Brandon) Stanley and Brittany (Corey) Hill. Sixteen great grandchildren: Jaydon, Haydon, Bo, Kaily, Lauretta, Layla, Coleman, Adam, Thomas, John, Birdie, Alain, A.J., Aubrey, Oaklee, Colton. As well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. With visitation from 12 until 2pm and funeral to follow at 2 pm in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Stiles, Rev. Ethan Fortner, Rev. Johnny Ray Davis and grandson Jacob Brooks. Burial will be in the Shook Cemetery on Shook Cove Road, Tuckasegee.
The family would like to thank Deb, Pam and Tony for their dedication to caring for their sweet moma/mamaw, which allowed her to spend her last years at her own home. Also, thanks and love to our Four Seasons Hospice Team and Christian with EMS, all of moma’s Meals on Wheels volunteers who so lovingly checked on her each day and who brought smiles and flowers to brighten her days. To all our friends, family, neighbors and church family, thank you so much for the love shown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
