Audrey Hooper Moore

Audrey Hooper Moore, age 88, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2022 at home in Cullowhee, NC surrounded by her family. She was born in Tuckasegee, North Carolina on September 29, 1934.

Audrey is predeceased by her husband, Wayne Moore; her parents, Troy and Eliza Moody Hooper; her brother and sister-in-law, J Austin and Bonnie Crawford Hooper; and brother-in-law, Charles Crisp. 

Surviving is her sister, Edna Hooper Crisp, as well as her family and friends.

Audrey loved her family, friends, and life in Manassas, VA, where she lived and worked for over 60 years. A familiar face in local businesses, as the Manager of Silco Junior Department Store, and in retail at Tucker Shoe Store, Reeves Office Supply and Executive Office Supply.

In 2019, Audrey, of Soroptimist International of Manassas, was nominated for the Interservice Club Council’s Volunteer of the Year Award. Audrey was nominated for her many years of volunteering for Soroptimist causes, American Cancer Society and as a lifetime volunteer at UVA Prince William Medical Center. Proceeds from her numerous yard sales were to benefit
ACTS Westside Safe House, purchasing many needed items for mothers and their children, such as a refrigerator to store residents’ medications.

In keeping with Audrey’s wishes, a service will be held for family and friends at Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva, NC, at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 25, 2022, with private interment at Stonewall Memorial Gardens in Manassas, Virginia.

Because of her love for children, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; Ronald McDonald House of the Piedmont Triad, 419 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston Salem, NC 27103; or Soroptimist International of Manassas, P.O. Box 2535, Manassas, VA 20108, to be directed to the ACTS Westside Safe House.

Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva NC will be assisting the family with arrangements.
