Anne Fisher Cabe

Anne Fisher Cabe, 83, of Sylva, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February 11, 2023 at Skyland Care Center.

A native and a lifelong resident of Jackson County, Anne was the only child of the late William James “Bill” and Thelma Fancher Fisher.

Anne retired from the Jackson County Department of Social Services with 30 years of service.  She served on the TWSA Board, the NC Baptist Children’s Home Board and served as a Sylva Town Commissioner.  She was a graduate of the Sylva High School Class of 1957 and a graduate of Western Carolina University Class of 1961.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sylva and taught the Children’s Sunday School Class with Mrs. Hattie Monteith for many years.

She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her sweet tea.  She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Many people in Jackson County did not know that Anne and her husband Eldon would anonymously donate their time and resources to help many county residents in need with firewood, heating oil, groceries, clothes, shoes and Christmas presents.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Eldon Cabe, her daughter; Cathy Cabe Foxx and her grandson, Lyle Cabe.  She is survived by her children Christi Cabe Young (Richard), Bill Cabe (Sherry) all of Sylva and Cindy Cabe of Winston-Salem.  7 grandchildren; Ty Foxx (Kieran), Cayela Young Bauknecht (Jesse), Will and Daniel Cabe all of Sylva.  Cole Young (Erin) of Kings Mountain, Haley Foxx (Logan Hoyle) of Cashiers and Dr. Kajol Patel (Trey Douglas) of Seattle, WA.

4 Great Grandchildren; Sloan and Rowan Foxx, Zabel Foxx and Ellie Bauknecht.

Funeral service will be held 2:00pm, Wednesday, February 15, 2023 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Dennis Burrell and Rev. JD Grant officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, February 14^th from 6:00 until 8:00pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.  Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Activities Department at Skyland Care Center, 193 Asheville Highway, Sylva, NC 28779 or to the Jackson County Adult Day Program, 100 County Services Drive, Sylva, NC 28779.  Please make checks payable to either Skyland Care Center or Jackson County Department on Aging.  Please indicate it is for Activities Department/Anne Cabe.

The family extends many thanks to the entire staff at Skyland Care Center for the excellent care, compassion and love that they gave to Anne, the staff of Four Seasons Hospice and the Appalachian Funeral Services staff.
