Alan Richard Monteith, 67, of Cashiers, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016. Born January 6, 1949 in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Thomas Richard and Mattie B. Monteith. He was a self-employed general contractor who was an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Monteith was a champion for Mexican rights. He attended the Patterson School for boys in Lenoir, where he was a scholar and outstanding athlete but will mostly be remembered for being a loving father, grandfather and husband who will be missed. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son, James Monteith. He is survived by his wife Balbina Monteith of the home. 4 Sons- Bryan Monteith (Megan) of Hillsborough, NC Derick Monteith of Liberty, SC Jovani Sanchez of Cashiers Luis Sanchez of Cashiers 1 Daughter- Becky Stegner ( Jon) of Graham, NC 4 Grandchildren- Abigail, Aidan, Annabelle and Bailey 3 Sisters- Patricia Drummond, Myra Bumgarner, Lisa Monteith 1 Brother- Phil Monteith Stepmother- Katherine Monteith And numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday December 17 at Cashiers United Methodist Church of which he was a member. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm prior to the Service at the Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Blue Ridge School Athletic Department, 95 Bobcat Dr, Cashiers, NC 28717 .
