Alan "Dennis" Benson went to be with Our Lord and Savior September 28, 2016, after a long bout with cancer. Dennis was born March 14, 1951 in Tampa, Florida. He joined the U.S. Navy to fight for his country during the Vietnam War. While on leave, he went on a family vacation to North Carolina and met Candy, the Love of his life. They married in their hometown of Tampa in 1980, had a son Christian Alan (1983), who is and always will be their pride and joy. The family moved to North Carolina where they have lived for 28 years. Dennis and Candy both retired from Western Carolina University. Dennis is predeceased by his father; Hilton Benson, and his sisters; Beverly and Lori. He is survived by his loving wife Candace "Candy" Faye Benson Son; Christian Alan (Danyella) Benson Mother; Betty "Mama Jo" Benson Brothers; Mike (Connie) Benson and Rick (Bonnie) Benson Grandson- Angel, Granddaughters; McKenzye and Emily Numerous nieces, nephews and many other loving family members. A Celebration of Life will be held at the 6:00 PM Monday October 3 at the United Methodist Church of Cullowhee. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Methodist Church of Cullowhee, 416 Central Dr., Cullowhee, NC 28723, or, Charles George VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC 28805, or, Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S. Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731 . .
