Alain Georges Fokine, 78, of Sylva's East Fork Community died June 25, 2018 at Blue Ridge Healthcare on the Mountain.
He was born to Nicholas Fokine and Amy Johnson Fokine on February 16, 1940 in Lyon, France. Alain came to the United States in 1941 with his family escaping the Nazis in France. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Eaton.
Alain grew up in Yonkers, NY and moved to Vero Beach, FL in 1980. Then moved to Asheville, NC and eventually settled in Sylva, NC. He was self-employed in the delivery service in the NYC area until 1980. Alain showed interest in oil painting, oil painting restoration and was an avid antiques collector. Most recently, he was involved in the oil lamp and supply business for Southern Lamp and Supply (oillampman).
Alain is survived by his older brother John (Mohegan Lake, NY) and younger brothers Michael (Maggie Valley, NC), Peter (Rhinebeck, NY), Charles (Sylva, NC), Sister- Denise(Bronxville, NY)
