Delos Brown, 79, of Sylva, passed away Tuesday November 26, 2013. A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Jess F. and Guscelia Morgan Brown. Delos retired after 37 years of service with NCDOT where he was a machinist and mechanic. He was also an instructor at Sylva Webster High School, where he had a huge impact on the students he taught. After retiring, he worked at the GDS recycling center at Greens Creek as well as 441 Furniture in Franklin. Delos loved working with wood and tinkering with cars, he loved his children and grandchildren and especially loved serving the Lord. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hammie, Hugh Robert, Clarence and Fred Brown; his sister, Bonnie Cogdill; and his great-grandson, Bradley Sawyer.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Cogdill Brown
3 Daughters- Sandra Sawyer of Sylva, Deborah Brown of Indian Trail and Michelle Allison and her husband Michael of Sylva.
1 Son- Roger Dale Brown of Balsam
2 Grandchildren- Katie Allison and Tiffany Sawyer
And one great grandchild- Carson Sawyer
2 Brothers- Gene and George Brown of Sylva
And his twin sister- Delia Stanford of Sylva
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday November 30, 2013 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 pm prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greens Creek Cemetery.
