Blanche Potts Wike passed away on March 31, 2018, at the age of 103 years.
Born in East LaPorte, North Carolina and lifelong resident of Cullowhee, North Carolina, Blanche attended Western Carolina Teacher's College and taught at the East LaPorte School. Along with her husband and family, she owned and operated Wike's Grocery in East LaPorte. She was a talented crafter, avid reader, and loved having a house full of guests whom she quickly adopted and became their Granny henceforth. She was the keeper of history for the Wike family and the local area and loved sharing her stories and knowledge.
Blanche was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, James Oscar Wike, her only son, Jimmy Wike, her parents, James Curtis Potts and Florence Hooper Potts as well as her brothers and sister. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandson Brent (Lane) Wike of Cullowhee, her great-grandson Jared (Nicole) Wike, great-granddaughter Jenna (Brett) Bonner, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Ava, Campbell, Noah, Andie, Wyatt, Payton, and Tucker, who were the light of her world.
A Celebration of Blanche's life will be held on Thursday, April 5, at 1 p.m. at the Appalachian Funeral Home, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, with Rev. Mike Farmer officiating. Visitation will be held prior to services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
