Biography

James Edward Stevens,75, of Sylva died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Med West Harris. James was born November 25, 1936 in Haywood County. He is the son of the late Bruce and Maggie (Harkins) Stevens.

He served in the Army National Guard. He was employed as a Produce Clerk for Sav-Mor in Sylva. He worked for many years in the grocery retail business working for A&P, Ensley Grocery, BI-LO and Harold's Supermarket in Sylva. He attended East Sylva Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Patsy(Dillard) Stevens of the home. Two daughters, Jamie S. Robinson and Beverly S. Carnes and husband Billy Carnes of Sylva. Four Grandchildren Jeremy and wife Carla, Betsy and husband Brody, Jessica and husband Shane, Bryan and wife Amanda. Four great grandchildren, Zoe, Brittany, Garrett and Adeline all of Sylva. A brother Frank Stevens of Lake Toxaway, several brothers and sister in laws and nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial is scheduled in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Community Table P.O. Box 62, Dillsboro, NC 28725

I loved James, he always had a smile and was so much fun. I enjoyed working with him at Harolds and always seeing him there and later at Sav-Mor. My relationship with James began in the early sixties. We were co-workers at Ensley's. I have very fond memories of James. He was always a hard worker, very friendly and a practical joker. Many times we talked about the good old days when I went to shop at Harolds, and then later on at Save-Mor. He was a good friend, and I will miss him dearly.
