Verna Mae Burns Parton, 96, of Whittier died suddenly on Saturday, July 17, 2010. She is the daughter of Tom and Mae Burns and was born May 14, 1914 in Madison County. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gertrude Game, her brothers, Andy and Harold Burns, and her son, James (Jimmy) Parton.

Verna is survived by her sons, Thomas (Buck) Parton and wife Alix, Walter Parton and daughter Mikey Parton Duckett and husband Charles, her sister, Bertie Revis, daughter-in-law Peggy Parton, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning on Saturday July 31, 2010 at Whittier United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Whittier United Methodist Church Food Pantry Ministry, P.O., Box 668, Whittier, NC 28789
