Funeral Service: Sunday, July 18, 2010 2:00 PM Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva, NC Visitation: Saturday, July 17, 2010 6:00-8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services and Crematorium, Sylva, NC Interment: PE MOODY MEMORIAL GARDENS, Sylva, NC BiographyAubrey Howard Tippett of Sylva, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Sylva. He was the son of the late Walter and the late Dessie (Pickens) Tippett. He was a former member of the Jackson County Jaycees serving as state Jaycee Director. He was honored in 1967 as Jackson County's young man of the year. He was former vice chairman of the Jackson County Red Cross Chapter and County Chairman of the Red Cross recruitment program. He was a former member of the Lion's Club and the Sylva Fire Department. He recently served on the Town of Sylva planning board. Aubrey was formerly associated with the Mead Corporation, wood procurement section. He retired from GTE -Verizon telephone company. After retirement, he was employed for seven years with Southern Lumber Home Center. He was an avid gardener. He served in the army and was a member of Grace Community Church. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Bobby (Harris), two brothers, Roy Tippett and wife Lillian of Franklin, and Truman Tippett and wife Pede of Franklin, and two sisters, Betty Duvall of Franklin and Thelma Sanders and husband Ralph of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews. The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 17 at Appalachian Funeral Services. The funeral was held in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 18. Reverend Rich Peoples officiated. Burial followed in Fairview Memorial Gardens cemetery in Sylva. Graveside rites were conducted by the William E. Dillard American Legion Post 104. His nephews were pall bearers: Tony Thompson, Michael Harris, Steve Sanders, Dale Duvall, Terry Duvall, and Tommy Tippett.
